Tables and groups are similar ways to structure signature elements in the Signature Designer. This article outlines the differences between the way tables and groups behave.
Table | Group |
A table is a signature element. Information and other elements can be added to table cells. |
A group is several signature elements that are contained together. |
To create a table, you must add the Table element, decide on your number of rows and columns, then add other elements and information to it. You can also create a signature template from a table. |
You can create a group by dragging elements within the same border on the canvas. Some elements are automatically made into a group (including Address {Fields}, Contact {Fields}, Personal {Fields}, All {Fields} and Social Media Strip). |
Table cells have green borders, and the complete table then has its own gold border. Each element within a border becomes its own group.
For more information on borders, see Coloured borders in Exclaimer Signature Designer. |
A group has a red border.
For more information on borders, see Coloured borders in Exclaimer Signature Designer. |
Properties can be individually applied to elements per cell, or properties can be applied to the entire table.
For more information on table properties, see Working with the Table signatures element. |
Properties are applied to all elements in the group. By default, all group fields (including Address {Fields}, Contact {Fields}, Personal {Fields}, All {Fields} or Social Media Strip) inherit group properties - this means that when the element block is selected, any changes are applied to all properties in the group. You must select an individual field within the group to make individual changes to that field. For more information, see Understanding hierarchies and inheritance. |
A table creates a set structure of rows and columns. This is useful for creating an organized layout. Drag and drop your elements into specific cells. |
A group stacks all the elements within one border. This is useful for creating a less rigid layout. Drag and drop your elements within a group to change the layout. This may cause auto-adjustment of the rest of the group layout.
Groups can also be converted to tables. |
