Description
The Social Media Icon element allows you to add up to ten icons to your signature that link to social media channels. The Icon element offers pictorial icons representing social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn, and media sites such as Pinterest, Youtube, and TikTok. Each icon contains an embedded hyperlink added by the user.
How to access it
To access the Social Media Icon signature element:
- Open your signature in the Signature Designer.
For more information, see how to select a signature to edit.
- From the toolbox, expand Social Media and select the Social Media Icon element.
The Social Media Icon element is found in the Social Media section of the toolbox.

To add a Social Media Icon element to the signature:
- Drag and drop the Social Media Icon element onto your canvas.
Drag the element to any area of the canvas.
This opens the Social Media Icon window.
- Under Icon, select a social media icon from the drop down list.
Select an icon to represent your URL.
- Under Link, enter a URL address for your social media.
To use a link stored in user attributes from Active Directory for Microsoft 365 or Google Directory for Google Workspace, enter /{ at the end of the URL and select your attribute from the drop down. For more information on using attribute fields to store user data, see Manage User Data.
Tip! You can use custom attributes to create dynamic hyperlinks for your icons, allowing the URL to be user-specific depending on the sender. For more information on creating user-specific hyperlinks, see How to add a dynamic hyperlink (URL) to a signature. - To add alternate text to show if the image cannot be displayed, enter your text under Alt.
- To add more icons, select Add {Field}. To remove an icon, select the bin icon.
NOTE: You can add up to a maximum of 10 icons. - Select a layout option under Select the layout to use for the selected icons.
NOTE: Layout does not affect elements with only one icon.
Select Horizontal to display your social media icons horizontally.
Horizontal icons appear next to one another.
Select Vertical to display your social media icons vertically.
Vertical icons appear above and below one another.
- Select OK to confirm your choices and close the window, or select Cancel to return to the canvas without saving.
To remove a Social Media Icon element from a signature:
- Select the element on the canvas.
- Select Delete from the Properties pane.
The Delete button is found in the Properties pane. You may need to close Properties sections to view it.

Social Media Icon properties
Social Media Icon properties are used to adjust the appearance of the icon.
Background | Enter or select the background colour of the icon element. |

Foreground | Enter or select the foreground colour of the icon element. |
Width | Enter a pixel (px) or point (pt) value to set the width of the item. Set to auto to allow the item to automatically adjust based on viewer size. |
Height | Enter a pixel (px) or point (pt) value to set the height of the item. Set to auto to allow the item to automatically adjust based on viewer size. |
Corner Radius | Adjust the slider to increase or decrease the corner rounding of the icon. At the lowest end of the slider, the icon will be square. At the highest, the icon will be circular. |
Show Glass | Check to display a 3D 'glassy' effect on the icon. Uncheck to display icon as flat and matte. |
Hyperlink properties
Hyperlink properties are used to apply a hyperlink to the icon.
Destination URL | Enter the URL to use in the hyperlink. |

Alt Text | Enter alternate text to be shown if this icon cannot be displayed. |
Visibility properties
Visibility properties are used to adjust when the item appears.
Always visible | Select to ensure the item is always visible in the signature. |

Auto-hiding separator | Select to only make the item visible when there are other visible, non-separator items before and after it in the same group. |
Visible when | Select to set conditions under which an item becomes visible. |
Alignment properties
Alignment properties are used to determine the horizontal and vertical alignment of the item.
Horizontal | Select Left, Center, or Right to set the horizontal alignment. |

Vertical | Select Top, Center, or Bottom to set the vertical alignment. |
Border properties
Border properties are used to set borders on the item.
All | Check All the same to enable the All border properties. Select line style, line width, and line colour to apply to all sides of the item. |

Left / Right / Top /Bottom | Uncheck All the same to enable individual border properties for Left, Right, Top, and Bottom. Select line style, line width, and line colour to apply to each side of the item. |
Padding properties
Padding properties are used to define spacing for the item.
All | Check All the same to enable the All padding properties. Enter either a pixel or point value to apply padding to all sides of the item. |
