Scenario
If you're experiencing an issue and communicating with the Support team to resolve it, then they may ask you for a copy of the email where you experienced the issue.
Resolution
Depending on the mail client you are using, the steps to save an email to your desktop will vary.

Outlook
In Outlook, on a Windows machine, there are two ways in which you can save the email:
Option 1 - Saving the email as a file
To save the email as a file:
- Within the reading pane, select the email you wish to save. Or, double-click to open the email into a new window.
Example: - Click the File menu at the top:
- Click Save As:
The Save As window is displayed. - Select a location on your desktop then click Save.

Option 2 - Drag and drop an email to your desktop
TIP! To proceed with this option, it will be easier to have a smaller Outlook window if you are limited to one laptop or computer screen.
To make the window smaller, click on the square icon next to the x button - then drag the edges and make the window smaller

To drag and drop the email to your desktop:
- Within the reading pane, select the email you wish to save. Or, double-click to open the email into a new window.
Example: - Click and drag the file onto your desktop, where it will be saved instantly.
Example:
The email is saved as an .msg file.
New Outlook
To save the email in New Outlook:
- Within the reading pane, select the email you wish to save. Or, double-click to open the email into a new window.
Example: - Click on [...] (More Actions option) on the top right-hand corner of the email preview and navigate to the Download option.
- Click Download to save the email file - by default, the email will be saved in the Downloads folder.
The email is saved as an .eml file.
Outlook on the Web (OWA)
To save the email in OWA:
- Within the reading pane, select the email you wish to save. Or, double-click to open the email into a new window.
Example: - Click on [...] (More actions option) on the top right-hand corner of the email preview and navigate to the Download option.
- Click Download to save the email file - by default, the email will be saved in the Downloads folder.
The email is saved as an .eml file.
Outlook for Mac
To save the email in Mac:
- Select the email you wish to save.
- Open the Finder window in Mac, select the Downloads tab.
- Drag and drop the selected email from your mailbox into the Finder window (Downloads tab).
The email is saved as an .eml file.
Mac mail
To save the email in Mac mail:
- Select the email you wish to save.
- Open the Finder window in Mac, select the Downloads tab.
- Drag and drop the selected email from your mailbox into the Finder window (Downloads tab).
The email is saved as an .eml file.
Gmail
To save the email in Gmail:
- In the Inbox folder, click the email you wish to save.
- Click on [...] on the top right-hand corner of the reading pane and navigate to the Download message option.
By default, the email will be saved in the Downloads folder.
The email is saved as an .eml file.
