How do I make the disclaimer appear before the previous message in a reply?


My disclaimer always appears at the bottom of the message. This is fine for the first email, but on subsequent emails it would be more suitable if the disclaimer were placed between the reply and the previous message(s).


Your disclaimer needs to be updated to use the {Original Email Above Reply Separator} and {Original Email Below Reply Separator} fields.


  1. Start the Exclaimer Control Panel
  2. Edit/Preview your disclaimer in the disclaimer editor.
    Note: If you have only used the wizard, then this will be on the Default Rules panel
  3. Delete the {Original Email} field from the disclaimer
  4. Use the {fields} menu item to insert the {Original Email Above Reply Separator} in place of the full original email field
  5. Optionally place the {Reply Separator} field in after your disclaimer text
  6. Underneath the disclaimer text, place the {Original Email Below Reply Separator} field
Use the rule tester to verify that the output is what you would expect.

How does this work?

  1. When a message is due to have the disclaimer added, Exclaimer will scan the message to locate the first reply separator in the message. This is normally the string "----Original Email----", but this can vary depending upon the editor used to write the message.
  2. Exclaimer splits the message at this point into 3 parts; the message prior to the reply separator, the reply separator itself and the message below the separator. These parts are placed into the {Original Email Above Reply Separator}, {Reply Separator} and {Original Email Below Reply Separator} fields respectively.
  3. The disclaimer is placed into the message with the appropriate fields in the appropriate places. If you look at the examples above, you will be able to see how this will affect your email messages.
