Scenario
You are using Exclaimer and often use dark mode on your device. Dark mode is a display setting that changes the color scheme of an interface, usually by inverting light and dark colours, to minimize the amount of blue light to enhance readability and reduce eye strain. You would like to know how dark mode affects your Exclaimer use and email signatures.
Resolution
Different devices and mail clients may affect the appearance of email signatures, including inverting colours and applying dark backgrounds. Unfortunately, a device's dark mode settings cannot be overwritten, and effects can vary greatly between devices and clients, but there are adjustments to your design you can take to optimise your signature for potential viewing adjustments made by dark mode.
- Use images with a light background to ensure dark text can still be seen. We recommend uploading images with rounded edges rather than a square, depending on logo design. This will not affect light mode.

- We recommend adding a light-colored border around text-based logos or tagline images before uploading the image to the template. This ensures that if dark mode is applied, your text will still be visible.

- Render the signature as a bitmap image if you use a background color, such as white. This will embed the colors used in the signature, resulting in the signature staying the same at all times.
To render a signature as a bitmap, select the outermost border of the canvas in the Signature Designer. In the Properties pane, expand the Render section. Under Render Mode, select Bitmap.
Select the Bitmap option in the Render Properties.
- If you have uploaded a custom font, this automatically renders the signature as a bitmap image, which embeds the colors used in the signature. However, if these colors are dark colors such as black, navy, or gray, this may mean your signature or text cannot be seen in dark mode. To avoid rendering as a bitmap, remove the custom font and use a font stack.
