Introduction
Some signature elements are contained together in red lines. For example, when you add Address Fields, Contact Fields or Personal Fields you are actually adding a series of fields that have been grouped for convenience because they are commonly used together:
In the Signature Designer, a group is indicated by a red border, as can be seen above. If you select this border, you are selecting the group.
When you add a grouped element to a signature design, you define Group Properties, which determine how items within the group look and behave - for example, the appearance of text, alignment, borders, etc. A key advantage of using groups is that Group Properties are inherited by all fields within the group - so there's no need to set properties for individual fields (unless you want to).
Group properties
Group Properties are displayed when you add a grouped element to your design (for example, Address Fields, Contact Fields, Personal Fields, All fields or a Social Media Strip:
Depending on the element type added, there may be extra tabs in this window, but the following Group Properties are typically available:
Text
Text properties are used to determine the appearance of text within grouped items:
| Font Family | Leave the default value of inherit to inherit this value from the parent element. Alternatively, select a font from the drop-down list. |
| Font Size | Leave the default value of inherit to inherit this value from the parent element. Alternatively, select a size from the drop-down list (the size can be selected as either pixels or points). |
| Text Color | Use this option to change the colour of contact field text. You can type a value into this field, or use the colour picker. |
| Line Height | Leave the default value of inherit to inherit this value from the parent element. Alternatively, select the required value from the drop-down list (the height can be selected as either pixels or points). |
Background
Background properties are used to define what (if any) background is applied for the group:
| None | No background applies. |
| Color | Use the colour picker to select a background colour. |
| Image | Select this option and click Upload Image to choose a background image for the group. When you choose to apply a background image, the entire signature must be rendered (and applied) as a bitmap image - not HTML. A warning to this effect is displayed:
If you wish to proceed, click Yes to confirm. |
Visibility
Visibility properties are used to determine the circumstances under which the group (and therefore any fields within it) should/should not be displayed:
| Always visible | The default setting is to always to display the group. |
| Hidden if this field is empty | You can choose to hide this group if a (selected) user attribute is empty. |
| Auto-hiding separator | By default, a field is hidden if no user data is found - for example, if a contact group includes the JobTitle field but no job title is present for a user, this field will be hidden in their signature, to ensure there are no gaps in the design. If you chose to display fields in this group on a single line with a separator between each item, you can choose this option to ensure that separators are only displayed when appropriate. For example:
Field A | Field B (here, the pipe character is the separator) If Field A was empty and therefore hidden, so the separator would be hidden. Similarly, if Field B was empty, the same applies. |
Alignment
Alignment properties are used to determine horizontal and vertical alignment of the group (and therefore fields within it):
| Text | Determines alignment of the text within the group - choose Left, Center, Right, Justify or Inherit. |
| Horizontal | Determines alignment of the group within the signature - choose Left, Center, Right, Justify or Stretch.
For example:
Here, the Horizontal alignment is set to Center, so the group is centred within the signature, but the Text alignment is set to Left, so if the text within the fields were to wrap over two lines, those lines would be aligned left, within the centred element. |
Border
Border properties are used to define borders for the group:
| All | Select a border type, size and colour and ensure that the All the same check box is ticked. These settings will be applied for all borders (left, right, top and bottom). This is the default setting (by default, no border is applied because the border size is set to 0). |

Ensure that the All the same check box is not ticked and define individual border properties as required. |
Padding
Padding properties are used to add spacing for the group:
| All | The default setting is for there to be no padding - i.e. Left, Right, Top and Bottom are set to 0 and the All the same check box is selected. |

Size
Size properties are used to define the size allowed for the group:
| Width | Leave the default value of auto to allow this field to adjust its width, depending on the size of the message viewer. Alternatively, specify an exact width (in pixels or points). |
| Height | Leave the default value of auto to allow this field to adjust its height, depending on the size of the message viewer. Alternatively, specify an exact width (in pixels or points). |
Render
Render properties are used to determine how the signature is rendered in messages:
| Normal | The default setting renders the signature as HTML. |
| Bitmap | Render the signature as a Bitmap image. In this case, any externally linked images will be embedded in the signature and text will not wrap unless the width of the field is fixed (i.e. not set to auto). A warning to this effect is displayed:

Orientation
Orientation properties are used to determine whether fields within the group should be presented horizontally or vertically.
