Scenario
When you forward an email with web-hosted images, the recipient sees the image as a white box with a black border. Something like this:

If you don’t want the images to be downloaded into the Mail Client when you receive the email, then you can use Embedded Images.
Microsoft Outlook displays the image with a white box and black border when the recipient hasn’t downloaded the image into the email before forwarding it.
You can download the images from the Infobar at the top of your message:
- Click to download the images.
If you look into the source code, you will see:
'Image Removed by Sender' next to where the Image should be.
Most Mail Clients such as Outlook Web Access (OWA), Apple Mail and Gmail automatically download web-hosted images into the email.
Change Security Settings in Microsoft Outlook
You can change the security settings for hosted images in Microsoft Outlook.
To do this:
- On the File tab, click Options.
The Outlook Options dialog is displayed.

From the left-hand side, click Trust Center.
- Click Trust Center Settings....
The Trust Center dialog is displayed. - Click Automatic Download to view, and as required, select from the different options available.
